Key West - The Best of Florida Keys

Key West is the southernmost city of Florida within the continental United States. It lies about 160 km from the mainland on sand and coral island about 6.5 km long and 2.4 km wide in the western Florida Keys.Key West is a very enchanting place. The people who visited here before, still talk about their vacation here and count the fond memories of Key West sunset, walking down the Old Town lanes and smelling the jasmine to a popular duo at the bars on Duval Street.

If you have never experienced Key West before, you are in for a real treat. It offers the finest saltwater fishing to the amateur/hobby fishermen and the serious alike. The thrill of sight casting to tarpon as you cross a beautiful sandy flat in the backcountry, or doing some deep sea fishing and thinking of fresh seafood dinner at the fine Key West restaurants is simply unique. Plus relaxing trips a charter to view dolphins in the wild or a solitary pastime in a kayak in the backcountry add much to your wonder experience.

Key West possesses a rare blend of Cuban, Bahamian, West Indian and American culture. And it is well known for its architecture - 19th-century wooden homes giving inspiration to writers, artists and many simpletons. It was the home of Ernest Hemingway.

The city lies within National Marine Sanctuary, created in 1990. Besides there are several other national wildlife refuges are in this area such as Tortugas National Park (1992) and Key West Aquarium. Fort Zachary Taylor State Historic Site, Key West Shipwreck Historeum and the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum are other tourist attractions in the region. The museum and the historeum display shipwreck artifacts and re-creations of shipwreck and salvages. The Hemingway Days Festival is held annually in July.
